Mt.Rushmore
Mt. Rushmore as we entered. |
Rick and Jen, Rushmore behind.
Jen was our tour guide and was quizzing us along the way.
Did you know it was started in 1927 and was completed in 1941. |
Did you know that there were 400 workers on Mt Rushmore. One was fired for yodeling. |
Mountain goats are a common sight at Mt Rushmore. They often climbed the stairs along side the workers when it was being made. I took this photo right next to the Presidential Trail. |
Did you know George Washington's nose is 21 feet long? The others are only 20 feet. |
No one died while working on Rushmore and dynamite was the main tool. |
The trees around Mt. Rushmore are mostly Ponderosa Pines. They were beautiful.
What Rushmore was meant to look like in the beginning. |
Sturgis
We just so happened to be at Mt. Rushmore the same time as the bikers week at Sturgis, a near by city. Needless to say we saw a LOT of bikes.
Downtown Keystone, where we stayed while visiting Mt. Rushmore. |
Downtown Keystone. |
I mean a lot of bikes. |
More... |
A favorite. |
I couldn't resist taking this photo of a biker tourist at Mt. Rushmore. |
Crazy Horse
Another spectacular sight is the mountain carving of
Crazy Horse, near Mt. Rushmore.
From a distance surrounded by the beautiful Ponderosa Pines. |
A rainy day at Crazy Horse. |
What it will look like some day. |
